Hi Anna,

Many, many apologies for not responding to your post sooner. I think I partly didn't reply out of shame that I have not, yet, admittedly, even used the dang Wondermill yet -- and yes, I have had it for almost a whole dadgum year :(. So I think subconsciously I put off replying because of that. But here I will fully admit that no, I haven't used it -- not for peanut butter, not for corn tortilla dough, nor for wheat tortilla dough, not even for whole wheat flour, nothing, nada, zip. I'm afraid my urge for self-sufficiency hit both my inherent laziness and the realities of modern life -- I have an 8 to 5 job that takes me an hour to get to and an hour back in Austin rush-hour traffic by city bus, and by the time ya factor in that, feeding the cats, making dinner, eating dinner, cleaning up after dinner, nosing around a little in the garden, taking out the trash, bringing in the trash, doing some laundry, going to the grocery store, attending to personal relationships, yada, yada, there's little time to mess with my lovely Wondermill, Jr. as much as I would love to do so and wish I'd done before now.

But you didn't come here for a long-winded and whiney excuse as to why I've neither replied nor even used my Wondermill, Jr.; you came here to see if someone who personally owns a Wondermill, Jr. has used it and can recommend it, and sadly I have to say I have one and have not used it so can neither recommend it nor dis-recommend it. However, Al Durtschi has used one and you can read his experience at http://www.grainmillcomparison.com/2009/07/wondermill-junior-review.html. And he doesn't recommend it for nut butter or any other kind of oily seed/grain. He has also tested several other mills, so you might want to read about those too on his blog. I don't know if he will respond to your comments, but you might want to head on over to the blog, read his review and see if he'll answer your questions.

Again, Anna, my apologies for not answering sooner and for not having used my Wondermill, Jr. to give you a more personal review. But who knows, maybe I'll dig it out of my closet, dust it off and give 'er a try in the next few months. But don't wait on me to do so! :)

Anyway, thanks fer coming by, giving me a shout and I hope you found something useful, even if it wasn't my reply to yer comment!

Hi

I read in your blog that you had purchased a Wondermill jr. I have red reviews but no customer reviews.

I was wondering if you could share your experience about the mill. Have you tried to making peanut butter ?
To make peanut butter the metal bur is used.

I am looking for a mill to make corn tortilla dough. To do this I would need a grinder that can grind cooked wet corn.

Have you ever tried making corn tortillas from scratch?

I would appreciate any feedback on the mill.

Thank You

Hey, Ms. Z-

A most excellent post! I like borage a lot, but cold never get it to thrive. The flowers appeal to me, *and* I even like the cuke/pepper savor you don't care for.

The moonflower vines are about to take over my deck. I also bought that funny Persian witch hazel I was so taken with, and it's doing great.

Heat has finallystruck here: I stepped out this morning and was bowled over by humidity and the scent of jasmine.

Keep those blogs a-comin' - meanwhile, I wish you cooler and damper times.

Your faithful fan,

I'm curious about the borage- do you use it medicinally, or in salads? Or just for pretty? (I've always found it a very appealing plant, though I don't keep it going here in KY.)

How is it handling the stress of your summer? And how is everything else (including Zippy the Poet) handling the same?

I'm running Texas idioms through my head that include popcorn and flatulence, and I'll be dadgummed if I can think of what he said! I can only imagine -- or maybe I don't wanna do that! ;)

Please do post again soon! We all need the encouragement. On the phone today my brother Rusty in Austin described your current weather in a colorful Texas idiom that I don't want to repeat, except that it included both popcorn (agricultural) and flatulence (medical).

So hang in there, and continue to delight the rest of us, despite it all!

Cheers,

Why Ms. E, thanky! I've been slogging so much through this hot TX heat of 100-plus degrees even in tha shade that I think both brain and body (not to mention my veggies) are almost completely too dang fried for me to crawl to a keyboard and write. But your post has inspired me in the midst of my parched and desolate gardening-blog wanderings, and I will attempt to write another post! Yay! So look for a new posting soon, though I cain't promise how entertaining and informative it might be in my heated energy-zapped state, but I'll giv'er a go!

Thanx again fer the post and the encouragement!
